Rules:
- The promoters are Spekko Rice (Pioneer Foods Pty Ltd.) and The Good Food & Wine Show Ltd.
- The competition is open to all South African residents above the age of 18 who are in possession of a valid Identity Document, except directors, members, partners, employees, agents or consultants of, or any other person who directly or indirectly controls, or is controlled by the promoter or marketing service providers in respect of the promotional competition, or their spouses, life partners, business partners or immediate family members.
- To enter, competitors must send in their own recipe or recipes, accompanied by their name, ID number, cell phone number, e-mail and physical address. The recipes must serve four, and must be served with, or include one of the Spekko Rice variants.
- The judges will look for originality and ease of preparation.

- The competition closes on 17 September 2011 at 12 am. Any entries received after 12 noon will not be valid and will not be considered.
- The promoters will make a decision on 16 September 2011. Finalists will be notified via telephone, followed through by an e-mail or SMS. The organisers will endeavour to contact the finalists on the telephone number and address provided. If, however, they cannot be reached for any reason whatsoever, the prize will be forfeited and another finalist will be selected in accordance with the competition rules.
- Finalists will lose their place in the competition if they cannot attend the finals in Johannesburg between 22 and 25 September 2011. In this case another finalist will be chosen, as per rule 7.
- At the finals event - 22 and 25 September 2011, 36 finalists will participate in the cook-off on stage at the Good Food & Wine Show, at the Spekko Cook Like a Master stand.
- In the first round, the finalists will cook their own recipes, as entered. Finalists must provide their own ingredient for the first round. In the semi final rounds, the finalists will get 12 ingredients with which to devise a new dish. These ingredients will be made known to the finalists on 20 September. In the final round, contestants will get a “mystery basket” of ingredients on stage, from which to choose and to cook a final dish.
- Judging at the cook-off: MasterChef finalist Alvin Quah will have sole discretion on the choosing of the winning recipes at the show. He will be judging on taste, flavour and originality. He may however, ask other chefs to assist him in the task.
- Finalists will receive an exhibitors’ ticket to the show, plus one added complimentary ticket for entrance to the Good Food & Wine Show, over the show period.
- Finalists must provide all ingredients for the first round. Ingredients will be provided for the semis and finals.
- Equipment on stand: Smeg gas-electric stoves with oven, preparation equipment, AMC cookware and aprons.
- Only finalists, whether they live outside or within greater Johannesburg, must make their own way to the Good Food & Wine Show. In all instances, the prize is for one person only. This includes the invitation to the Alvin Quah dinner.
- Finalists and winners will be requested to be interviewed, photographed and filmed. Photographs and footage of the finalists and winners may be used in advertising or publicity by Spekko Rice and the Good Food & Wine Show. The finalists and winners may decline these requests.
- All entries will become the property of Spekko Rice (Pioneer Foods Pty Ltd.) 18.
- The sponsors, their advertising promotional agencies and The Good Food & Wine Show will not accept any responsibility for any mishap that may befall anyone who enters, or takes part in the finals.
- The AMC prizes will not be exchanged for cash.
- The Promoters shall have the right to terminate the competition immediately and without notice for any reason beyond its control. In the event of such termination, all participants agree to waive any rights that they may have in terms of this promotion and acknowledge that they will have no recourse against the Promoter, its agents and staff.
- Participation in the competition constitutes acceptance of the competition rules and entrants agree to abide by these rules.
- Except in so far as is provided for in the Act 68 of 2008, the judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Entries may only be submitted by amateur cooks. No entries by professional chefs allowed.
- If you have entered Spekko cooking competitions previously, entries will not be accepted.
