Consumers who comply with the terms and conditions below will be regarded as eligible participants and will automatically be entered into the draw to stand a chance to be selected as one of the finalists who will compete in the final cook-off for the sought after Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition title:

- The link will direct you to the entry form located on the Spekko Rice mobi site
- Complete the entry form:
- Provide the details requested
- Submit your recipe
- Accept the terms and conditions…and
- Click on the ‘Enter’ button to submit your entry.

- Select the ‘Competitions’ menu item

- By sending the details and your recipe to the caterer@spekko.mobi email address, you agree to the terms and conditions of this Competition.
COMPETITION PERIOD:
- The Competition will commence on the 7th of February 2014 at 17:00 and will continue until the 26th of June 2014 at 23:59, hereinafter referred to as the ‘Competition Period’.
- Entries received outside of the Competition Period will not be considered and will be excluded from the weekly draws and will not be included in the draw to become a finalist in the cook-off for the Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition.
REQUIREMENTS FOR RECIPE:
- The recipe submitted by participants must contain one or more of the following Spekko Rice products
- Spekko Parboiled Long Grain Rice
- Spekko Saman Parboiled Rice
- Spekko Saman Brown Rice
- Spekko Saman White Rice
- Spekko Royal Umbrella Jasmine Rice
- Spekko India Gate Classic Basmati Rice
- The recipe submitted must be an original recipe
- The recipes entered will become the property of the Promoter and may be reproduced and used by the Promoter for whatever reason, including publishing the recipe during promotions and on the various Spekko Rice platforms.
WEEKLY DRAWS DURING COMPETITION PERIOD:
- The Competition Period will be divided into 20 (twenty) respective weeks and 1 (one) weekly draw will take place for each of the weeks.
- 1 (one) winner will be selected for each of the weekly draws during the Competition Period.
- Entries received from eligible participants during the preceding week from Friday at 00:00 to Thursday at 23:59 will be considered for that weeks draw.
- Weekly winners will be selected every Monday or the next Business Day thereafter if the Monday falls on a Public Holiday as recognized in the Republic of South Africa.
- The entry that contains the most original, creative or inspiring recipe for that specific week will be selected as the winner for the applicable weekly draw.
- The weekly winner selection will be done by an independent adjudicator. The adjudicator’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Only complete entries will be included in the weekly draw.
WEEKLY DRAWS – PRIZE, NOTIFICATION AND ANNOUNCEMENT:
- Eligible participants stand a chance to win 1 (one) weekly prize for each of the 20 (twenty) weekly draws during the Competition Period.
- The weekly prize will consist of a cash prize to the value of R 500.00 (five hundred Rand).
- The weekly winner will be selected and contacted by a representative from the Promoter within 14 (fourteen) days after the applicable weekly draw to inform them that they have been selected as the winner of that weekly draw.
- The Promoter will attempt to contact the weekly winners telephonically, twice a day for 2 (two) consecutive days. In the event that the Promoter:
- cannot reach the weekly winner within this period; or
- if the weekly winner declines to accept the prize for whatever reason; or
- if the weekly winner cannot provide sufficient identification verification; the weekly winner will forfeit the prize and the Promoter reserves the right to select another winner from the eligible participants by means of a secondary independent draw.
- The weekly cash prize will be paid into the winner’s bank account within 14 (fourteen) days after being notified.
- The weekly winners may be announced on the Spekko Rice website and/or the Spekko Rice mobi site and/or the Spekko Rice Facebook Page and/or on the Spekko Rice Twitter Account and/or any other publication related to the Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition, after the winner has been successfully notified for the specific weekly draw.
FINALIST FOR THE COOK-OFF:
- 13 (thirteen) finalists will be selected to compete in the final cook-off for the Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition title.
- The finalist will be selected from all the entries received from eligible participants during the Competition Period.
- The entries that contain the most original, creative or inspiring recipe will be selected as the finalists who will compete in the final cook-off.
- The selection will take place within 7 (seven) days after the end of the Competition Period.
- The selection will be done by an independent adjudicator. The adjudicator’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Only complete entries will be included in the draw to be selected as 1 (one) of the 13 (thirteen) finalists.
- The 20 (twenty) weekly winners selected in the weekly draws during the Competition Period will not automatically qualify as 1 (one) of the 13 (thirteen) finalists that will compete in the cook-off for the Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition title:
- You may be selected as one (1) of the 20 (twenty) weekly winners and not be selected as (1) of the (13) finalists;
- You may be selected as (1) of the (13) finalists even if you were not selected as one (1) of the 20 (twenty) weekly winners;
- You may be selected as (1) of the 20 (twenty) weekly winners as well as be selected as (1) of the (13) finalists.
FINALISTS – NOTIFICATION AND ANNOUNCEMENT:
- The finalists will be contacted by a representative from the Promoter within 14 (fourteen) days after the end of the Competition Period to inform them that they have been selected as a finalist to compete in the final cook-off for the Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition title.
- The Promoter will attempt to contact the finalists telephonically, twice a day for 2 (two) consecutive days. In the event that the Promoter:
- cannot reach the finalist within this period; or
- if the finalist declines to compete in the final cook-off for whatever reason; or
- if the finalist cannot provide sufficient identification verification;the finalist will forfeit the selection to take part in the final cook-off and the Promoter reserves the right to select another finalist from the eligible participants by means of a secondary independent draw.
- The finalists may be announced on the Spekko Rice website and/or the Spekko Rice mobi site and/or the Spekko Rice Facebook Page and/or on the Spekko Rice Twitter Account and/or any other publication related to the Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition, after the finalists have been successfully notified.
FINALS:
- The 13 (thirteen) finalists will compete in the final cook-off for the Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition title.
- The finals will take place at the HTA School of Culinary Art in Randburg, Johannesburg, South Africa during July 2014. The exact date and time will be confirmed with the finalist telephonically.
- Finalist must make their own travel and/or accommodation arrangements to attend the finals. All travel and accommodation costs are for the finalists own account and the Promoter will not be liable for any such costs incurred.
- In the event that a finalist fails to report for the finals at the venue on the day and time notified, or arrives after the time notified, the finalist will be disqualified from competing in the final cook-off. No exceptions will be considered.
FINALS PROCEDURE:
ROUND 1:
- The rules applicable to Round 1 will be explained to all the finalist before the round begins, including but not limited to the procedure, time allocation, any restrictions and the judging criteria
- The 13 (thirteen) finalist will be requested to prepare their original recipe as submitted on their entry form.
- The recipe must include one or more of the Spekko Rice products.
- All ingredients will be provided.
- Finalist may bring their own herbs and special spices or ingredients if they want to source these items from their own suppliers. This will be for the finalist’s own account.
- Round 1 will be adjudicated by a panel of independent judges, which may include catering professionals, media representative and/or brand experts from Spekko Rice.
- At the end of Round 1, the judges will select 7 (seven) finalists from the 13 (thirteen) finalists that competed in Round 1 to proceed and compete in Round 2 of the cook-off for the Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition title.
- The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
ROUND 2:
- The rules applicable to Round 2, the final round, will be explained to all the semi-finalist before the round begins, including but not limited to the procedure, time allocation, any restrictions and the judging criteria.
- The 7 (seven) finalists will compete in Round 2 in a mystery basket challenge.
- The mystery basket of ingredients will be supplied to each finalist from which they need to prepare two dishes within the time allocated, which must consist of:
- A main dish;
- A starter or dessert dish.
- The two dishes must contain a Spekko Rice product
- The judging criteria may include:
- Preparation
- Presentation
- Taste
- Use of ingredients
- Business acumen.
- The judging criteria and scoring method will be explained to the finalists before the round begins.
- All ingredients will be provided.
- Finalist may use their own herbs and special spices if they want to source these items from their own suppliers. This will be for the finalist’s own account.
- Round 2 will be adjudicated by a panel of independent judges, which may include catering professionals, media representative and/or brand experts from Spekko Rice, who may or may not be the same judges that adjudicated Round 1.
- At the end of Round 2, the judges will select 3 (three) finalists from the 7 (seven) finalists that competed in Round 2 as the top 3 (three) finalists:
- The Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition Winner;
- The Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition Second Place Winner;
- The Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition Third Place Winner.
- The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- The final top 3 (three) finalists, which consists of the Winner, Second Place Winner and Third Place Winner will be announced straight after the completion of Round 2 at a tasting function.
PRIZES:
The top 3 (three) finalist will receive the following prizes:
Winner: R 30 000.00 (thirty thousand Rand) cash prize;
Second Place Winner: R 15 000.00 (fifteen thousand Rand) cash prize;
Third Place Winner: R 5 000.00 (five thousand Rand) cash prize.
Arrangements will be made with the top 3 (three) finalist with regards to transfer of the prize money into their bank accounts.
RESTRICTIONS:
- Participants may enter as many times as they like to increase their chances of being selected as a weekly winner and/or a finalist who will compete in the final cook-off by submitting a completed entry form, conditional on the restriction(s) below:
- In the event that an eligible participant has been selected as a winner for a specific weekly draw, that participant will be excluded from the other weekly draws and will not be eligible to win a prize in these weekly draws;
- Each respective entry must contain a different original recipe containing a Spekko Rice product.
- The participant must be a natural person who is a South African citizen over the age of 18 (eighteen) years.
- The participant must be in possession of a valid identification document, for example a green bar-coded ID book, driver’s license or South African passport.
- The participant must provide complete, true and correct information on the entry form. Incomplete entries will not be included in the draw for the weekly prize and will be excluded from the draw to become a finalist in the final cook-off.
- The participant must not be an employee, director, member, partner or agent of, or consultant to the Promoter or any of its promotional partners, advertising partners or sponsors during the Competition Period.
PROMOTER:
- Spekko Rice (Pioneer Foods (Pty) Ltd) is the Promoter of this Competition
- The decision of the Promoter regarding the winners is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
- Should any person wish to ascertain winner information they can contact competitions@mobimedia.co.za to request details, quoting the name of the Competition: “Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition”.
- The Promoter may require the prize winner to identify themselves with an RSA identity book or driver’s license, or any other reasonable means that would be accepted by a financial institution registered as an Authorized Financial Services Provided.
- The Promoter reserves the right to change the terms and conditions without prior notification.
- The Competition terms and conditions can be obtained at no charge by requesting these via email from competitions@mobimedia.co.za, quoting the name of the Competition: “Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition”.
- To the fullest extent allowed by law, the Promoter, its directors, affiliates, members, partners, employees, agents, consultants, suppliers, contractors, subsidiaries and sponsor assume no liability whatsoever for any direct or indirect loss or damage including but not limited to physical harm or death, however arising from or as a result of any entrant’s participation in the Competition or the entrant’s redemption of any prize in terms of this Competition.
- The organisers shall have the right to terminate the competition immediately and without notice for any reason beyond its control requiring this. In the event of such termination, all participants agree to waive any rights that they may have in terms of this promotion and acknowledge that they will have no recourse against the Promoter, its agents and staff.
POST COMPETITION MARKETING:
- The Promoter may invite the any of the 20 (twenty) weekly winners, the 13 (thirteen) finalist and/or the top 3 (three) winners to:
- Provide an image of themselves or a quote that may be published on the Spekko Rice website and/or the Spekko Rice mobi site and/or the Spekko Rice Facebook Page and/or Spekko Rice Twitter Account and/or any other publication related to the Spekko Rice ‘Caterer of the Year 2014’ Competition; and
- Attend pre and post Competition marketing events;in connection with this Competition or for other marketing activities for a period of 12 (twelve) months after they are announced as winners, finalist or top 3 winners.
- Winners, finalist or top 3 winners have the right to decline such invitation or request
- Winners, finalist or top 3 winners may be filmed or photographed for marketing purposes and the Promoter will be the owner of any intellectual property rights associated with such films or photographs.
