Spekko Rice sponsors food theatre
In another milestone for Spekko Rice, the brand is sponsoring the first Afrikaans food-theatre production ever.
Aptly named Voorskoot & Lipstiek, the show was conceived by Sarie Magazine food editor Herman Lensing and Marinda Engelbrecht, a finalist on the Kokkedoor TV reality food show.
With her trademark red lipstick ready to be applied before any cooking started, Marinda Engelbrecht was nicknamed “lipstiek” during the filming of Kokkedoor Season 1 – kykNET’s Afrikaans reality cooking series. Herman’s first cookbook Voorskoot, published over the festive season last year and became an instant best-seller.
With an emotionally laden script written by Marion Holm and also directed by this award-winning director, Voorskoot & Lipstiek launched over March at the Stellenbosch Woordfees.
Set around a weekend visit of a son to his parents in a small rural town, the story revolves around the cooking of a three course dinner on stage.
The pair cooks a prawn and apple salad, an oxtail pilaf and a multi layered chocolate cake on stage.
Described as a journey condensed in good food smells, witty anecdotes, home truths and a good bit of nostalgia, this show ultimately is about the love for food.
During the performances a live feed is shown on large television screens, giving the audiences a clear insight on the preparation and recipes cooked on stage.
In an unprecedented surge of popularity, this show has generated more than 30 festival bookings for 2014 alone. This top-rated show at the recent KKNK (Klein Karoo Kunstefees in Oudtshoorn – 29 March – 5 April 2014), Voorskoot & Lipstiek is the story of a mother and son preparing a “Babette’s feast”.
The show launched at the Stellenbosch Woordfees during March with rave reviews and full-house bookings.
